2022 Ford Expedition Preview

The 2022 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV available in two length configurations. This mainstay of the Ford lineup will see some major changes for 2022. Car and Driver notes that the Expedition will be equipped with the same 15.5-inch screen and infotainment system currently available in the Mustang Mach-E, which represents a significant upgrade for the vehicle.

All-New Inside and Out

The exterior of the Expedition is expected to feature new, sleeker taillights and a redesigned front end, although details are not yet available about the changes made to the front of the vehicle.

A redesign of the wheels and the addition of red-painted brake calipers are expected on the 2022 model, as is the newly available Timberline trim level designed for off-road adventuring. Experts also believe that a hybrid powertrain is likely and will be based on the 3.5-liter PowerBoost V-6, which is currently available on the 2021 F-150 truck from Ford.

Inside the cabin, the big news is the expanded screen size of the infotainment display, which is expected to increase from its current eight-inch dimensions to a full 15.5 inches. Two-row seating was introduced for the model in 2021 and is expected to be a feature for the 2022 Ford Expedition as well.

Building on Its Record of Success

Motor Trend ranked the 2021 Ford Expedition number one in the full-size three-row SUV category, praising its comfort and the responsiveness of its V-6 engine. Not everything is expected to change for 2022. The Expedition will likely retain its current twin-turbocharged 3-5-liter V-6 engine and its hefty 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque while adding a hybrid model for the new model year.

Cabin space has always been a strong selling point for the Expedition, and the 2022 model is unlikely to see many changes in this regard. The standard-length Expedition offers 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space, while the extended-length version increases the cargo space to 121.5 cubic feet. Even taller drivers and passengers enjoy plenty of legroom and headroom in this full-size SUV. MSRP information is not yet available for this vehicle, which is expected to make its debut sometime in late 2021.
