2021 Ford Escape MPG Review

2021 Ford Escape Review Cleveland Ohio

Something that sets the 2021 Ford Escape apart from other SUVs in its class is the MPG. This compact SUV is available as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, so it’s able to take you especially far between fill-ups. In fact, with the hybrid, you’re able to get the following EPA-estimated efficiency specs:

  • Front-wheel drive (FWD) MPG: 44 city/37 highway MPG
  • All-wheel drive (AWD) MPG: 43 city/37 highway MPG

The 2021 Ford Escape hybrid comes standard with FWD. An Intelligent AWD system is also available. This smart AWD system actively adapts to your changing roadway conditions to allow for optimal traction control in the snow, rain, and other low-traction conditions.

Gas-powered Escape trims come with either a 1.5L or 2.0L EcoBoost® engine. The 1.5L engine gets an EPA-estimated 26 city/31 highway MPG with AWD, while the 2.0L engine gets an EPA-estimated 23 city/31 highway MPG with AWD.

Ford Escape Towing Capacity

The Ford Escape towing capacity is a maximum of 3,500 pounds when equipped with the available Class II Trailer Tow Package. That’s enough strength to tow a trailer with a dirt bike on it or even a small trailer for moving.

It gets this kind of capability when it’s running on the available 2.0L EcoBoost® engine, which achieves the following specs:

  • 250 horsepower
  • 280 lb-ft of torque

With the standard 1.5L EcoBoost® engine, your 2021 Escape can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. This engine delivers 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. However, if you’re driving the hybrid, then your towing capacity will be 1,500 pounds when properly equipped.

We always want to make sure you’re driving the SUV that’s the best fit for your unique lifestyle. With four different trim levels for you to pick from, the 2021 Ford Escape makes that possible. You can see a brief description of the four trim levels below:

  1. Ford Escape S

The Ford Escape S is the base-level trim, so it comes equipped with all the standard features, like the 181-horsepower, 1.5L EcoBoost® engine. It also keeps you connected with the SYNC® Voice Recognition Communications System that includes a 4.2-inch LCD screen and standard Bluetooth® wireless smartphone connection. Ford Co-Pilot360™ comes standard on this trim, too, including driver-assistive features like BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.

  1. Ford Escape SE

Next, we have the Escape SE trim. This trim level comes standard with the 1.5L engine, but it’s the first to make the hybrid powertrain available too. It’s also the first to come standard with the SYNC® 3 infotainment system. This includes an 8-inch touchscreen display and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility.

With the SEL trim, your Escape gets fog lamps that can help lead the way on hazy evenings. It’s also the first to make the 2.0L EcoBoost® engine available, with its 250 horsepower and 3,500-pound properly equipped towing capacity. Plus, you can upgrade your sound system with the optional B&O™ Sound System with 10 speakers, including a subwoofer.

  1. Escape Titanium

Finally, there’s the Titanium trim. This trim comes standard as a hybrid, but makes the 2.0L EcoBoost® engine available too. You’ll also get the B&O™ Sound System standard on this trim, as well as the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ suite of safety features, like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering.
